A couple of days ago we put up the Christmas tree. Thank you to my niece, Esther, for sending it over in a shipment a few months ago. The children have never celebrated Christmas before and they had no idea what we meant when we said we were going to decorate a Christmas tree. We had told them on Monday that we would decorate the Christmas tree on Friday (December 13). On Friday morning before school I had put up a felt Christmas tree on the wall of the school room and attached the velcro ornaments to it. When the kids came in to the school room that morning, they all ran over and were so excited about the Christmas tree. I realized that they thought that was the tree we had been talking about decorating. So I explained that we had a tree taller than uncle Jim that we would be decorating after school that day. Jim and I put the tree together during lunch that day and put the lights on it in our bedroom. Then when school was over we carried the tree up to the girls home (that's where we have all our meals and devotions with the children and staff) where the children were waiting and carried the tree inside. They were so excited. I had the children two at a time come up and help decorate. We rotated through the children several times until we had the tree completely decorated. (My OCD Christmas tree decorating senses might have been over stimulated - but I only fixed a few of the decorations, later that evening. 😄) The children had made a few of the tree decorations in art classes. And they have had lots of fun making decorations for the school room too.
