Yesterday (Saturday, December 14) we had H4L's first Christmas pageant. We will do it two more times this week. Yesterday we presented it to our neighboring village kids. There were around 60 village kids that attended. The kids were absolutely amazing. I was so proud of the kids. Thank you to my niece, Esther, for sending over most of the costumes in a shipment a few months ago. We needed three extra costumes. So I sewed two angel costumes and one shepherd costume. I went in to Monrovia to buy the material for the angels costumes. And I made the shepherds costume out of one of our pillowcases.
I used another one of our pillowcases to make the two shepherds headpieces. I cut out the seven pairs of angel wings from cardboard I had been saving. Then Bayama and Jim helped me decorate and paint them. Finding resources here is an interesting process. And most resources that I would normally have available aren't available here or I have to do an all day trip and search of Monrovia. Thankfully Kelly has a sewing machine here at H4L. When I got the sewing machine box out of the storage closet there was a small bag of sewing supplies inside of the box and inside of that box were 14 small pieces of elastic perfect for using on our angel wings so that they could be "attached" to each angel. And I needed exactly 14 pieces of elastic.
Our kids were beyond excited to get to wear the "Christmas clothes." When I would say costumes they would have no clue what I was saying. They just called them the "Christmas clothes." One of our six year old girls saw Jim painting the wings outside and asked him what they were and he told her and she said with awe and excitement, "We can fly high up." Pointing up in the sky. They have only seen the pictures in the Christmas story books of the angels in the sky. 😆
