Life at the orphanage is always full of surprises, and last week, we had an unexpected guest that brought joy and curiosity to the children—a beautiful cattle egret!
It appeared suddenly, moving gracefully across the compound, as if exploring its new surroundings. Unlike most birds that fly away at the slightest disturbance, this egret seemed comfortable among us. Even when our pet dog tried to chase it off, it simply took a short flight over the roof and landed again, continuing its peaceful stroll.
The children were thrilled! They watched in awe, pointing and laughing as the “white bird” moved around with confidence. Some of them even tried to see how close they could get before it took a few cautious steps away. It was a simple yet beautiful moment, reminding us of the peace and harmony that God has blessed us with in this place.
Watching the egret was more than just entertainment; it was a lesson in appreciating the wonders of creation. In the midst of our daily work, the laughter of children, and the responsibilities of caring for our home, God sends little reminders of His presence—sometimes in the form of a single bird, calmly wandering our grounds.
As we continue our mission at the orphanage, we are grateful for these moments of stillness and joy. Whether it’s through a visiting egret, a child’s laughter, or the warmth of a shared meal, God’s goodness is evident all around us.
We thank Him for the peace He has given us here and for the precious children who find joy in even the simplest of things. And who knows? Maybe our special visitor will return again soon.
